·        Items admitted conditionally – items whose importation into the country is allowed with the term if a document issued by the relevant authorities of the exporting country is presented.    

·        Items admitted without conditions – items whose import into the country is allowed.

Part II:
Conditions of admission of articles imported or in transit
 
1. Animals and animal products
 
a    There is a general prohibition on the importation of animals and animal products. Subject to the terms and conditions of special permits issued by the Director of Veterinary Services, the following may be imported:
 
–    animals and poultry for breeding purposes;
 
–    dogs, cats, tropical fish, parrots and birds.
 
b    Also subject to import licensing regulations, issued by the Minister of Commerce and Industry. c    Leeches and silkworms are absolutely prohibited.
 
2. Products of animal origin intended for consumption by humans or pet animals
 
As a general rule, their importation is subject:
 
a    to the terms and conditions of special permits issued by the Director of Veterinary Services;
 
b    to import licensing regulations issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry;
 
c    to special provisions of the Health Authorities;
 
d    to current hygiene and health namely:
 
–   satisfactory hygiene and health inspection;
 
–   submission of a hygiene or health certificate, issued by the competent authority of the country of origin.
 
 
3. Plants and plant products
 
As a general rule, the importation of the products of this kind (for example dried beans and dried peas Tariff Heading 07.13, seed potatoes Tariff heading 07.01.10, raw vegetables Tariff Heading 07.09, mushrooms 07.09-12) is subject to the conditions formulated by the Ministry of Agriculture and is restricted unless accompanied by an international Phytosanitary Certificate. On their importation the products under reference must be examined by an official of the Ministry of Agriculture (Phytopathology Department).
 
 
4. Edible fruit or nuts; peel of citrus, fruit or melons
 
All products of this kind are subject on importation to import licensing regulations and also to hygiene and health inspection. They must also be accompanied by an International PhytosanitaryCertificate.
 
 
5. Narcotics
 
Dangerous drugs, including inter alia the following, are absolutely prohibited unless imported under licence issued by the Ministry of Health:
 
a    prepared opium;
 
b    other drugs; including raw opium, coca leaves; poppy straw; cannabis resin and all preparations of which cannabis resin forms the base.
 
As a general rule Dangerous Drugs can be imported by authorized persons for pharmaceutical purposes and must ALWAYS be accompanied by a permit which is issued by the appropriate authority in the exporting country (and is included in the package containing the drugs) and also by a permit isued by the Cyprus Ministry of Health.
 
 
6. Pharmaceutical products
 
The importation of pharmaceutical products and poisons is subject to the following conditions:
 
a   they must be registered products according to the provisions of the Pharmaceutical Products Law and relevant regulations;
 
b   they must be imported by professional persons and bodies;
 
c   they must be accompanied by a licence issued by the Pharmacy Board or by the Ministry of Agriculture (Veterinary
Services), as the case may be.

 
 
7. Arms and ammunition, parts and accessories thereof
 
i     The following articles are absolutely prohibited:
 
a   firecrackers;
 
b   any weapon (including daggers of whatever description, designed for the discharge of any noxious liquid, gas or other thing, or any ammunition containing or designed or adapted to contain any such noxious thing;
 
c   air guns, air pistols and air rifles of a calibre exceeding 0.177 inches (0.45 cm);
 
d   rifles and repeating firearms;
 
e   shotguns (automatic; semi-automatic; repeating; automatic and repeating; semi-automatic and repeating)
 
ii     Ammunitions and explosives and firearms the importation of which is not absolutely prohibited (as above) are subject to import licence issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industryand also to a special permit issued by the Ministry of Interior.
 
 
8. Antiques of an age exceeding 100 years
 
Goods may be accepted as antiques of an age exceeding 100 years (and thus classified under Tariff Heading 97.06) if they are accompanied by a documentary evidence to that effect from a Government competent authority from the country of origin or from the Cyprus Department of the Antiquities.
 
 
9. Electrical apparatus for line telephony or line telegraphy, including such apparatus for carrier – current line systems
 
The importation of all goods which are illustrated below can be effected only in cases in which their supporting invoices are endorsed to that effect by the Ministry of Communications and Works and/or by the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority.
